|HsinChu, Taiwan, May 7, 2003- Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation (VIS) announced today that the sales revenue for April 2003 was NT$ 870 million, a 14.97% increase compared to the same period of 2002. The cumulative revenue through April was NT$ 3.11 billion, a 13.75% increase compared to the same period of 2002.
Mr. Paul Chien, President of Vanguard, noted that due to the performance improvement in company's transformation to a foundry company, VIS's Sales Revenue for the first quarter of 2003 represented a significant growth and Loss before Tax narrowed down to NT$ 740 million from NT$ 1,300 million of fourth quarter of 2002. Moreover, following by the March performance improvement because of the sales from contributed from the foundry business already exceed those from the DRAM business, April sales revenue continuously represented a 11.4 percent growth over March due to the utilization rate continue to increase. Furthermore, April performance achieved the best result in the past two years which was very close to breakeven point and the overall forecast of 2003 will be the sequentially growth of monthly utilization rate and quarterly sales revenue.
